About Love Nut Hate & the Ice Cream Design Challenge
Six TERN champions with refugee backgrounds partnered with Ben & Jerry's on the Ice Cream Design Challenge to create Ben & Jerry's new flavour, Love Nut Hate.
Love Nut Hate unites sweet cream ice cream, pistachio swirls and crunchy pastry pieces to celebrate love, courage and community. The flavour was co-created with refugee entrepreneurs and comes with a celebration of those who choose love over hate in our communities.

Team work makes the dream work
Six TERN champions with refugee backgrounds came together with Ben & Jerry's Flavour Gurus, the wider migrant entrepreneur community and retail partners at Co-op to co-create Love Nut Hate.
We're living in a moment where authoritarianism and extremism are rising around the world, fuelling hate, division and misinformation. Refugee and migrant communities are often those most harmed by this climate, yet they are also the ones who consistently show leadership, resilience and solidarity, strengthening the communities around them even in the hardest times.
As part of the Ice Cream Design Challenge, the team received mentoring and training to build their skills in product research and development, marketing and communication. They combined their experience and ideas to create this new ice cream with a mission.
An ice cream with a mission
Proceeds from Love Nut Hate will help the next generation of refugee-led startups to flourish.
Funds will be used to train more refugee entrepreneurs through UP Collective and to provide access to microfinance by Skylight - a community-led fund providing inclusive finance to refugee entrepreneurs, enabling them to kickstart their ideas.
